A Cuban doctor who recovered from Ebola after receiving experimental treatment in Switzerland has been welcomed back to Havana by relatives and officials.

Felix Baez was the first of Cuba's contingent of 250 doctors and nurses to have contracted Ebola in West Africa.

He was met at Havana's Jose Marti airport by his family and Health Minister Roberto Morales.

He told reporters that he and his colleagues were committed to fighting Ebola and he hoped to return to Africa.

"I will return there to finish what I started," he said.

I though that Cuba has an amazing health care system. Perhaps I was mistaken.

Zmapp is an American Pharma company, their ebola immunoglobulin therapy is still in the experimental and testing phase.
The US sanctions on Cuba include restricting the sales of pharmaceutical products to Cuba.
Thankfully, Switzerland doesn't have an insane policy as the US has regarding Cuba and Cubans. Switzerland has full normal diplomatic and trade relations with Cuba - including health care education and treatment exchange programs - so, their Ministry of Health treated this fine and brave doctor.

No, you are not mistaken - Cuba has a fine medical system.
