Cuba says U.S. must respect its communist system

BY DANIEL TROTTA
HAVANA Sat Dec 20, 2014 1:29pm EST

(Reuters) - President Raul Castro demanded on Saturday that the United States respect Cuba's communist rule as the two countries work to restore diplomatic ties, and warned that Cuban-American exiles might try to sabotage the rapprochement.

U.S. President Barack Obama this week reset Washington's Cold War-era policy on Cuba and the two countries swapped prisoners in a historic deal after 18 months of secret talks.

Cubans have treated the end of open U.S. hostility as a triumph, especially the release of three Cuban intelligence agents who served long U.S. prison terms for spying on Cuban exile groups in Florida.

U.S. officials will visit Havana in January to start talks on normalizing relations and Obama has said his government will push Cuba on issues of human and political rights as they negotiate over the coming months.

Who are we to tell others about morals or law. Ours is a joke. This is why we need to hold those accountable for the past.

Expect Cuba to go the same route as China: it CLAIMS to be communist, but it's economically very far from it.

Record numbers of private businesses in Cuba now.
What Cubans really need is for the US to lift the travel ban on Americans. Then Cuba's tourism economy can flourish like the rest of the Caribbean, where US tourists visit in great numbers.

Of course, this is just what didn't happen. The travel ban remains

And Cuba will do fine. Given the opportunity they will make the right choices for their country.

I wish Cuba all the good luck it's been working hard to make happen. Cuba is a success story, and an example to all the nations of the world.

I hope that the 99% of the USA avoid the consequences of the 1% Elite's follies.
