Voice of America News: With Cuba at Summit, US Seeks Renewed Ties With Latin America

With Cuba at Summit, US Seeks Renewed Ties With Latin America

Published April 07, 2015

The Summit of the Americas normally receives little media attention in the United States. But this year is different because Cuba, unlike previous years, is invited to the gathering in Panama (April 10-11). U.S. officials say President Obama will interact with Cuban President Raúl Castro for the first time since announcing steps to normalize U.S.-Cuba relations. VOA White House correspondent Luis Ramirez reports.

2. It looks more like the administration is saying, "Now we're going lighter on Cuba, turn your backs

on Venezuela, and stop standing up for Maduro so we can overthrow him more easily."

They aren't really going to make sweet peace with Cuba, as they still intend to take over the government and privatize the hell out of the country, destroying their world-famous universal medical and education and public housing systems, returning everything to private ownership, just as they have been doing it here.

Their interests are served, apparently, as they think, they can fool the rest of the American countries into believing they have turned a leaf, and changed their ways, and aren't in the nation-destroying game any longer, and no one needs to worry they will be destroying Venezuela's elected government, either.

How conspicuous. How shabby. Undoubtedly the leaders can see their scheme revealed in all its primitive, predatory ugliness.

Venezuela has really done a complete job of destroying their own country under chavismo. In Colombia, with an active armed conflict, there are less violent deaths than in Venezuela and toilet pape is very easy to come by. No lines, no branding of shoppers, no biometric data needed, no limiting shopping to certain days and amounts.

5. Yep. And even then, Obama's declaration happened only weeks ago.

All these problems have been in Venezuela and growing for the last few years now, WAY before being considered a security threat, especially under the Nincompoop's leadership.

6. Hey, the US had problems under the leadership of a nincompoop for eight years, and absolutely

WAS a security threat to many countries. Maybe someone should have stepped, deposed Bush, and fixed us all up.
The US is only interested in the oil. Not the well-being of the people. The US isn't even all that interested in its own poor.

7. Yes I know. Those problems are internal to Venezuela

Created by those in power.

By the way, looks like Obama will meet with Raul in Panama. He will also meet with leaders from Uruguay, Chile? (Batchelet isn't going I don't think) and CR.

I'd expect him to meet with Santos too. We'll see. We know Maduro will make an effort to meet with Obama to try and make a show.

9. Kinda funny how one is so eager to shake the hand of the president they claim is instigating a coup

Wonder how the Chavistas here will react to Maduro happily saying hi to Obama at the summit. I believe that's what he did with Joe Biden only a few weeks before claiming Biden was behind the supposed "ongoing coup" that they "uncovered" during February
