Argentina launches legal action to prevent Falklands oil and gas drilling
Friday 17 April 2015 23.18 BST
Argentinas minister for the Falklands has claimed his country harbours not the least desire to use force to regain the islands as it started legal action against companies drilling for oil and gas nearby.
Daniel Filmus, Buenos Airess minister for the Malvinas, as Argentina refers to the British overseas territory, gave a speech in London in which he said the country was forced to resort to defensive measures to protect its natural resources.
He confirmed that three British firms Premier Oil, Rockhopper Exploration and Falkland Oil & Gas as well as Edison International and Noble Energy were being targeted by the legal action.
Philip Hammond, the British foreign secretary, responded to news of the legal claim by accusing Argentina of bullying.

(14,732 posts)1. Whenever Argentina's economy begins to swirl the bowl,
they reach for the "Malvinas" button to generate jingoism and distract the public, already uneasy with the suicide of the Argentine Prosecutor with the new shiny object. Look for this to move into threats of military action if the legal path is unsuccessful. They are a one-trick pony.

They have to do everything they can to distract the people from their country's problems brought upon them by the incompetence and corruption of their leadership.
