Pollster Datanálisis: Opposition holds 20% lead ahead of parliament vote (Venezuela)

The ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) would lose its current majority in the National Assembly in the parliament vote to be held later this year, with only 25% of the vote, versus 45.8% for the opposition, if the election was today, according to a survey conducted by pollster Datanálisis.

Additionally, the poll found that support for the administration of President Nicolás Maduro rose in March for the third consecutive month and now stands at 28.2%.

Sixty-five percent of the population, however, disapproves of his administration and eight out of every 10 respondents described the situation in the country as "negative," according to the survey released last week.

Meanwhile, dissenter Leopoldo López, the leader of opposition Voluntad Popular party, who is detained for participating in protests in February 2014, is the most widely accepted opposition leader, with 40.4%, along with two-time presidential candidate Henrique Capriles, with 40%. This represents a technical draw.
