Northern Mexico prosecutors detain alleged serial killer

Northern Mexico prosecutors detain alleged serial killer
Jan 6, 8:42 PM EST

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Investigators in northern Mexico say they have arrested a man believed to be a serial killer linked to 15 slayings since 2009.

The Chihuahua state Prosecutor's Office says 35-year-old Andres Ulises Castillo Villarreal was arrested in connection with the killing of two men who were beaten to death and dismembered in the same manner and left in the street in November and December.

A prosecutor statement issued Tuesday says the investigation led to a third victim whose body was found buried in one of the rooms of the house where Castillo lived. He also is charged with sexually assaulting two other men.

Prosecutors say the crimes were related to sex and drugs, and authorities say the characteristics of the crimes could link Castillo to 12 other killings.

Investigators arrested a man suspected of being a serial killer linked to the rapes and dismemberment of up to 15 men in Chihuahua City, the state attorney general's office said Tuesday.

Chihuahua state investigators arrested Andres Ulises Castillo Villarreal, 35, in connection with the deaths of three men and the rapes of two others.

Authorities suspect that Castillo could be linked to 12 more homicides "recorded in different parts of the city committed with a high degree of brutality during the period from 2009 to 2015," a news release states.

The Chihuahua attorney general's office and state police said that the killings were of a sexual nature and were linked to the use of drugs. Castillo was allegedly in possession of crystal methamphetamine when he was arrested, officials said.
