Argentines Demand President Macri Respect Human Rights

Argentines Demand President Macri Respect Human Rights
Published 10 January 2016

...

A group of human rights organizations held a symbolic demonstration in front of Argentina's National Archive of Memory to repudiate efforts by the new right-wing government of Mauricio Macri to undermine the work of the human rights defenders and their efforts to investigate violations.

The archive's president, Horacio Pietragalla, whose parents were disappeared during the last dictatorship, has warned that Macri intends to change the leadership of the National Archive of Memory in order to hinder its work.

. . .

Demonstrators were joined by representatives from the Mothers and Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo, symbolic figures of the fight against the Argentine dictatorship.

The National Archive of Memory was a site of torture and human rights violations during the Argentine dictatorship and currently houses important information on human rights violations during that period.
