Mexico Bans Ad Critical of President's $430 Million Plane

Mexico Bans Ad Critical of President's $430 Million Plane

"There can be no poor or rich governments," said the now-suspended advertisement.

Mexico's National Electoral Institute will suspend advertisements in which politician Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador criticizes the federal government over its purchase of a presidential plane.

Judges from the Mexican Federal Electoral Tribunal met last Saturday and agreed that Lopez Obrador, of the National Regeneration Movement, aka Morena, used the advertisement to espouse his views and not those of the party in an attempt to attract voters.

Mexican political parties and candidates can only launch advertising campaigns on radio and television if they present their electoral platform to attract voters during elections.

The left-wing Lopez Obrador says in the commercial that should his party win the election in 2018 they will sell the plane, as “there can be no poor or rich governments.”
