Colombia: Second Disciplinary Sanction vs. Piedad Cordoba Overturned

Colombia: Second Disciplinary Sanction vs. Piedad Cordoba Overturned

Bogota, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) The Council of State overturned today the sanction issued by the Colombian Attorney''s General Office in 2012 against Piedad Cordoba, through which she was barred from holding public office for 14 years.

According to the current ruling unanimously passed, the Attorney's General Office did not take into account the evidence presented by the defense of former congresswoman Cordoba, who was disqualified for the alleged illegal involvement in politics.

Cordoba, also attorney and human rights defender, was charged with financing a candidate for the House of Representatives.

Last August, the Council of State also overturned the first sanction ruled by the Attorney's General Office in 2010, which removed from her post and disqualified Cordoba for 18 years.

Cordoba was praised for her work as mediator between the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP) and the Government to release some people held by FARC-EP.

'The country knows that I was arbitrarily disqualified' Cordoba posted on Twitter.
