Guatemalas former Finance Minister Pavel Centeno killed himself Friday after shooting two agents who had arrived to arrest him over his alleged involvement in a money laundry scandal.
Prosecutor Giovanni Santos and police Officer Jose Ismael Cuxa were wounded when they tried to get in Centeno's house in Guatemala City. After shooting the officials, the former minister killed himself with a shot in his lower jaw.
He was going to be arrested for his links in a case related to money laundering in the Bank of Workers, or Bantrab, when he served as finance minister from 2012 to 2013, during the administration of jailed former President Otto Perez Molina.
The arrest warrant followed a probe by the International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala, known as the CICIG.
