HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 23 (acn) Members of the Solidarity Committee with Cuba from the community of Santa Marta, Department of Cabañas, presented a donation to the Cuban embassy in El Salvador to send it to the victims of Hurricane Matthew.
According to Prensa Latina, a total of 1,800 dollars was raised, said Leonel Rivas, who is part of the Committee of that small canton, one of the poorest in the country and with a long tradition of struggle and sacrifice.
They carried out various initiatives such as the screening of Cuban films, set up an account and even organized a fundraising dinner to collaborate with the people who suffered the battering of Matthew.
The donation is also accompanied by a letter addressed to the Cuban people and government, in
which they thanked Fidel, who passed away last November 25, and his people by solidarity not only with El Salvador but worldwide.

Pepe Varela shows graphically what happens to Cuban bloggers who dont follow the hard-right Miamero line.
Dr. Paula Vernimmen, whom Ive been following since she was trapped inside the same hospital as president Rafael Correa on September 30, during the failed coup in Ecuador, has appealed via Twitter for someone to translate this into English. Its an entry from Yohandry, a popular Cuban blogger from the island, and its a shocker, so of course, I had to run with it:
Although we havent yet found clear references to what occurred, the images above, linked by the Miami police on an official Miami-Dade website, illustrate very well what could be the consequences of exercising your freedom of expression in that city.
During a recent trip to Cuba, Varela, who edits a blog in Miami which defends the Cuban Revolution, denounced the threats he was receiving from ultra-rightist elements in the city on Cambios en Cuba.
The Miami mafia blogosphere is already delighting in the images and celebrating the bestial beating of a man who has done no more than say what he thinks and feels in a city and a country where in reality, dissenting is a crime punished with aberrations like this one.

(160,452 posts)in Miami, and they used to riot and go wild when Cuban bands tried to play dates in Miami, and crowds would gather, throwing frozen cans of Coca Cola, D cell batteries, rocks, even Glad Bags filled with human excrement at bands like Los Van Van, while cursing and using obscenities at men and their companions trying to get in to see them, with occasional victims hauled off to the hospital.
So damned sick.

From the Miami Herald.
Emilio Milián's car
Years after, Miami commissioners named a street for him.
"Emilio Milian lost his legs in a 1976 car bombing allegedly by one of the men -- Gaspar Jimenez -- now accused of attempting the same thing on Fidel Castro; Miami Bishop Agustin Roman wants "mercy" for Jimenez
COURTESY OF MILIAN FAMILY"
"Have mercy, have mercy, baby, have mercy, have mercy on me. Signed, Gaspar Jimenez."[/center]
How far did Miami come from the 1976 attempted assassination of Emilio Milián and this story I found by accident on the vicious battering of Cuban blogger in Miami, Pepe Varela?
Remember, this kind of news traditionally never gets out of Miami. It has always happened with a complete veil of secrecy surrounding these hideous bombings, shootings, and assassinations. It has never escaped the awareness of the FBI, however, who named Miami as "America's Murder Capital" during the 1980's.
