Chilean President Urges Repressors to Inform on Forced Disappearances

Santiago de Chile, Dec 27 (Prensa Latina) Chilean president Michelle Bachelet, urged today former military condemned for crimes committed during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet from 1973 to 1990, to give information on missing persons.

'Feeling repentant is not enough, families need to know what happened, they must give information of those missing', asserted the President in statements to radio station Sonar FM.

Last week a dozen former military and ex security agents asked for pardon at the penitentiary of Punta Peuco, in the outskirts of Santiago, due to the abuses committed during the dictatorship, in a manejver criticized by relatives of the victims.

About an eventual closing of the special jail where repressors serve their sentences with relative confort, Bachelet expressed herself in favor to 'generate similar conditions for all'.
