Monday 15TH
COLOMBIAN trade unionist and left-wing leader Huber Ballesteros has received renewed death threats from right-wing paramilitaries.
Concerns for the safety of Mr Ballesteros and his family rose after he was sent a message online threatening his partner with sexual violence and his daughter with dismemberment.
The same day, Mr Ballesteros received another message bearing the logo of right-wing paramilitary group the AUC that designated him a military target.
He was sent a similar threat soon after he was released by the government from prison, where he had been held on trumped-up charges because of his political work.
Mr Ballesteros is the leader of peasant farmers union Fensuagro and national organiser of the left-wing Patriotic March social movement.
At least 43 activists have been killed this year, with most suspecting paramilitaries financed and armed by Colombias rich and big business.
