Argentina: Infant Mortality Increased in Buenos Aires

Argentina: Infant Mortality Increased in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, Jul 17 (Prensa Latina) Infant mortality in Buenos Aires increased from 6.0 in 2015 to 7.2 percent in 2016, in a great part, because of the loss of adquisitive power by the most vulnerable sectors, said a report by local entity Fundación Soberanía Sanitaria.

According to the report published by Argentinean newspaper Pagina 12, the dismantling of public health programs (such as Remediar and Plan Quinta) and the budget, are among the main causes of the increase, mostly reflected in the poorest communities.

The data showed that in 2016, 36 babies with less than a year of life more died, compared to 2015.

The report is titled 'Increase of Infant Mortality in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA)' reveals the problems in the access of public health services, social inequalities in the richest district, and that in the case of the capital, the inequality is too much visible and the most vulnerable communities are the most affected.'
