Consider this. The United States government doesnt know whos responsible for the so-called acoustic attacks on its embassy personnel in Havana. Then consider this. Cuban president Raúl Castro didnt simply claim his government had nothing to do with the incidents, he did the unthinkable and invited the FBI to investigate. FBI agents havent been able to figure it out. Neither have American acoustics specialists or medical experts. Even Canadas Mounties, whose own diplomats reported similar attacks, are stymied.
Despite the fact no one has identified either culprit or cause, the Trump administration is pre-emptively creating conflict with Havana. Why? And who benefits from that?
On October 3, the State Department announced it was expelling two-thirds of Cubas Washington embassy personnel, less than a week after it announced it was withdrawing sixty per cent of its own diplomats from Havana, and warning Americans against traveling there. The department called the moves reciprocity, but didnt explain for what, since the Cubans havent expelled anyone.
The State Department insists it isnt blaming the Cuban government for the attacks; its simply trying to protect American diplomats and tourists. Ironically, the U.S. Foreign Service Association, representing American diplomats around the world, opposes Washingtons directive. So do travel companies and airlines ferrying eager American visitors to the island in increasing numbers. So presumably do Americans generally, the majority of whom support improving relations with Cuba. While over 600,000 Americans visited Cuba last year, its worth noting not one has so far complained of symptoms similar to those reported by the diplomats.

The largest US association of travel organizers in Cuba, after holding an assembly of its members, issued a statement in which it unanimously disagrees with the decision of the US State Department to withdraw 60% of its Embassy staff from Cuba. Havana and its warning to US citizens to avoid their trips to Cuba.
As a result, the US Consulate in Havana suspended the issuance of visas for travel to the United States indefinitely, although it will continue to provide emergency services to US citizens when they are in Cuba.
The motivation for these actions is that it has been known that 21 US diplomats accredited in Havana have reported hearing problems of unknown origin.
From the evidence available to date and from the fact that the State Department asserts that no other American citizen has been affected, we believe that such a decision is unjustified and, therefore, we will continue to organize trips to Cuba and encourage others to do so. said Bob Guild, Co-Coordinator of RESPECT (Responsible Ethical Tourism of Cuba), a professional association made up of 150 representatives of travel agents, tour operators and other service providers related to trips to the island founded in December of 2016, on the anniversary of the opening of the Cuban-American dialogue.

(160,516 posts)now Donald Hump is determined, as you say, to destroy everything he managed to accomplished even as he was so handicapped by the fascist dirtbags, his accomplishments being even that much more fantastic, considering how hard it was to get anything done with so many filthy enemies trying to steal his right to work as the popularly elected President.
There's no doubt the Russians could do it, and they would do it for Trump, no doubt about that. I'm very curious, too.

(14,302 posts)when the warming relations between the U.S. and Cuba turn frosty. Russia also has the capability to develop sonic weapons, along with a history of action in Cuba. They are the likeliest culprit.
Russia benefits when they expand territory while encouraging divisions within other countries.

(63,836 posts)Russia and Cuba were very close allies during the Bay of Pigs huh? Russia is our arch enemy huh? I think President Obama handled Putin very well, just my opinion. I really don't know what will be the outcome in all this, but we are dealing with an ex-KGB'er, Putin does not play.

(34,195 posts)His parents came to the US in the late 1950s from Cuba,
and he was born in NJ.
He retired to Miami and is 110% anti Castro.
He only associates with the Cuban community in Florida.
I'd flood Cuba with American tourists, hoping to bring a freer Cuba.
He'd build a wall around it, and let them all die.
