American teenager whose death was ruled a suicide was 'raped and beaten,' new information suggests
Phone logs and crime scene photos cast doubt on the original story of the 16-year-old's death

New details have emerged in the alleged murder of an American teenager in Paraguay. Once ruled a suicide, prosecutors are now treating the case as a rape and murder, based on phone logs, crime scene photos, and interviews with suspects.

Sixteen-year-old Alex Villamayor died more than two and a half years ago, during a visit to a friend's family ranch in Encarnacion, Paraguay. The last time he spoke to his father, former Paraguayan congressman Luis Villamayor, he called to report that he and his friends were drinking mushroom tea on the property. The phone call cut off, and Mr Villamayor never heard from his son again.

The death was initially ruled a suicide. Now, new evidence in the case has emboldened prosecutors who are treating the case as a murder.

He didn't call his dad 50 times, the possible murderer did. EX500rider Nov 2017 #3
I see. That one blew right by me. I misread it as Alex, calling his own dad. Thanks. n/t Judi Lynn Nov 2017 #4

in one day.

Horrendous crime. What a terrible shame.

I hope his family is not going to be able to get the FBI involved in all crimes against US Americans outside the country.

That's an extension of US power going far beyond its legitimate boundaries which could provoke incredible abuse no one needs or wants.

They are hoping to ride the Hump train to get revenge for this outrageous crime. They should leave it to the existing law as it stands. Paraguay has been subservient to the US for such a long time, as it is. They will be fully cooperative.

What happened to Alex Villamayor shouldn't happen to anyone, anywhere.

May he rest in peace.

Phone records obtained by the Daily Beast reportedly show René, the friend whose house Alex was visiting, had called his father more than 50 times that day, starting at 3 am.

And if one of my loved ones was killed overseas I'd prefer the FBI helped the overworked/under paid and possibly corrupt local police solve the crime.
