Laughable. Chavismo purposely set these thugs up to defend Chavismo, not to protect Venezuela. They are the modern day Brown Shirts. Chavez gave them a stipend, gave them guns (including rocket launchers and grenades) and provided them with motorcycles. And all that he asked of them was to show up when called upon, and "break a few arms" if that sort of thing needed to be done. After all, it looks bad if uniformed PNB or the GNB (who defend Bolivarian Socialism, not Venezuela) are shown curb stomping citizens and punching/molesting women on video. That sort of thing is unseemly. Far better to blame "thugs" who cannot be connected directly to the regime.
You will also notice that these colectivos are pretty robust... they haven't been on The Maduro Diet like the rest of Venezuela. That is because they are paid in dollars, and they have no fear of arrest should they raid a store and clean it out of any food/product they desire. The national police just look the other way...
