7 out of 10 stores closed in Venezuela tourist hotspot
At least seven of every 10 stores have closed their doors on the Island
Andrés Rodríguez Ghersi, president of Fedecamaras Nueva Esparta, assured that 90% of the owners in the Free Port, prefer the final closure than work at a loss. It says that deserted streets are appreciated.
May 7, 2018 | The economic policies of the country, have hit continuously the commerce of the island of Margarita, to the point of which the boulevards, streets, avenues and commercial centers, look like true cemeteries of stores of the Free Port that, once were an attraction more for the activity tour.
Andrés Rodríguez Ghersi, president of Fedecamaras Nueva Esparta, referred to a tour of the Gómez and Guevara boulevards, along the avenues 4 de Mayo and Santiago Mariño, as well as through the streets of the commercial center of Porlamar and all the commercial centers of the Island, to verify the depression experienced by local commerce.
Describes that it is not only the establishments of clothes, household appliances, liquor stores, still lifes and so many others that offered their products with the advantages of prices, which allowed them the special customs regime that should be enjoying this entity, if the articulations of the Law of Free Port, totally unknown by the current Government.
Rodríguez Ghersi assured that from a preliminary inventory that they have begun to carry out, it can be deduced that until now, at least seven of every 10 stores in the Free Port have closed their doors.
He specified that of that amount, 90% of its owners have preferred the closure to avoid continuing to work at a loss, while the rest that remains, barely enough to operate, which makes them foresee an early final closure.
"What you can see are deserted streets, where once large stores operated that attracted tourists and people from other states, to resell imported merchandise," he said.

But, Maduro has an economic plan to bring back prosperity. Unfortunately he will only implement it AFTER he is re-elected (err... selected) Because to implement it now would be too soon! Apparently, 18,000% inflation isn't a crisis.
