Colombia: Ivan Duque, the mafia's puppet?

Ivan Duque, the mafia’s puppet?
by Frank Cardona May 25, 2018

Colombia’s former President Alvaro Uribe isn’t the only unsavory character supporting Ivan Duque. The conservative presidential candidate can count on an army of questionable political figures.

Duque’s political support team is full of political clans that have become infamous because of their ties to death squads, organized crime or corruption.

The conservative has also received the unofficial support of multiple former Medellin Cartel associates and the wife of Juan Francisco Gomez, the former governor of La Guajira who is now in prison for ordering six homicides.

. . .

Senator-elect Nadia Biel (Conservative Party) is the daughter of former senator Vincente Blel, who was convicted in 2010 for his links to paramilitary groups.

(Take a look at the summaries of the other candidates, and ask yourself why the US has handed over 9 billion dollars of US taxpayers' dollars to Colombia's government since 2000. That doesn't include all the military equipment, training for troops, advisors, etc., etc., etc. Absolutely horrendous.

As Donald Rumsfeld said, the U.S. sees Colombia as a "lilypad" location, from which movement against political problems arising in either Central or South American can be easily accomplished. Otherwise known as a "forward operating base." )

I had no idea he was Colombian until now, as I assumed all the many Spanish speaking hustlers around JEB were Cuban!

It can't be a coincidence, I'm sure. Wow.

That article surely could have helped, had the Post assigned it to someone during JEB's time as Florida's Governor, my God, especially during the run-up to George W. Bush's "election" in 2000.

Published as it was, in 2015, it almost looks as if it could have been a piece engineered to advance Trump's prospects. It was really needed back before the stolen election of 2000, wasn't it?

Still, the information should be known widely. After hearing Trump speak so shabbily about him, younger people may have never realized the kind of guy JEB has actually been all these years in Florida politics, most of all. Just HORRIBLE.

You remember his buddy Miguel Recarey pulled off the largest MEDICAID scam in US history at the time they tried to go after him, right before he ran to Venezuela, and then to Spain. He, also, like Duque, and all the other Bush buddies, a hideous thief, liar, cheat. A real syndicate has operated in South Florida. It will be amazing if that place EVER gets clean.

Thank you, so much for sharing this excellent journalism, sandensea.

I am so glad you remembered the Miami Colombian Dugue.
