Omar Bautista, president of the Chamber of Venezuelan Manufacturers of Automotive Products (Favenpa) said that currently the sector is only working at 16% of its installed capacity.

"At the moment, they are hardly working at 16% of their installed capacity on average, there are companies that are out of work, others work one week and one week, another three days a week," said Bautista during an interview with Unión Radio.

The president of Favenpa also commented that the automotive assembly industry registered a fall of 99% compared to 2008.

During the present year, only 705 vehicles have been assembled, a figure that is expected to reach 1,000 units at the end of 2018.

Not that anyone except the Chavista hierarchy can afford an automobile. Hell, El Pueblo can't afford a bus ticket. But, those who can will purchase such a vehicle (still heavily subsidized) and sell them at a hefty profit across the border. (The Maduros and Cabellos prefer their automobiles imported from Germany. And Delcy likes her handbags Italian. And her silk scarves, jewelry and eau du parfum French.)
