Peru: Prosecutor requests travel ban on ex-President Alan Garcia

Peru: Prosecutor requests travel ban on ex-President Alan Garcia

15:03 | Lima, Nov. 15.

Prosecutor Jose Domingo Perez has filed a request to forbid former President Alan Garcia from leaving the country, investigative journalism site IDL-Reporteros informed Thursday.

The request was submitted to Judge Juan Carlos Sanchez.

As is known, Brazilian construction giant and corruption-tainted Odebrecht allegedly paid bribes to secure the Lima Metro Line 1 contract during Garcia's presidency.

Earlier, IDL-Reporteros reported Garcia had received US$100,000 from Odebrecht for a lecture in Sao Paulo. He has denied the allegations.

What a shame the Peruvian oligarchy has never opted to go after Alan Garcia for ordering a military massacre during his first term from 1985 to 1990, and during his second term, from 2006 to 2011. The second one was somewhat well-known, unexpectedly, although not covered with enough honesty: The Bagua Massacre. Shameful.
