Aline Saleh, 29, says that psychic João de Deus (John of God) abused her in 2013, during a visit she made to Abadiânia with her grandmother. Her account is below:
I have psychic abilities since childhood. I used to see dark human shapes. I had vivid dreams. And I have always searched for ways to understand these phenomena better and develop my spirituality. I had never heard of João de Deus (John of God) until 2013, when my grandmother invited me to come along with her to Abadiânia, to see him.
She wanted to heal some pains she felt in her right arm, the consequence of a previous injury. I was intrigued and decided to go. For me, it was an adventure, because I had been to some sessions of Umbanda [a Brazilian religion that mixes Spiritism, Catholicism, and African traditions] and knew a bit about spiritual entities and their relationship with mediums.
Once in Abadiânia, I was stunned to see how the whole village is about João de Deus. There are photos of him everywhere. People seem to be indoctrinated, and the place is full of foreigners.

More than 200 women have accused Brazils most famous medium and spiritual healer of sexual abuse in a case that is becoming the countrys first major post-#MeToo scandal.
João Teixeira de Faria, 76, known as João de Deus, or John of God, has attended Brazilian presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Dilma Rousseff and Michel Temer, pop stars and celebrities. But in television interviews broadcast on Friday, four women alleged sexual abuse and then the floodgates opened: prosecutors have now received more than 200 complaints.
Patrícia Otoni, one of five prosecutors on a taskforce established on Monday in the state of Goiás, where the alleged abuses took place, said some of the allegations are over 10 years old but that others were more current.
Another prosecutor, Luciano Miranda, told Brazilian TV that potential crimes included rape and sexual abuse.

A Brazilian faith healer accused of sexually abusing more than 300 women has handed himself in to police, local media report.
Joao Teixeira de Faria, known as "John of God", was declared a fugitive on Saturday after missing a deadline to surrender to the authorities.
The cascade of claims against him began earlier in December, when a dozen women said the self-styled spiritual healer had abused them at his clinic.
Mr Faria denies the allegations.
The medium is based in the central town of Abadiania, west of the capital Brasilia, but has followers worldwide.
