Under Heavy Rain, Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Attend Resistance March

Under Heavy Rain, Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Attend Resistance March

Buenos Aires, Dec 14 (Prensa Latina) Buenos Aires wakes up and the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo continue for several hours positioned in that emblematic place, as they did in the harshest times of the last military dictatorship, in another march of the resistance.

Despite rain and the fall of hailstones that keep several streets in Buenos Aires flooded, these warlike women, despite being persons advanced in years, many with more than 90 years old, are escorted by young people and social organizations in a day that began Thursday afternoon and will conclude today with a great central activity.

Under the slogan 'Do not give up, do not negotiate, do not be silent, do not forgive, do not forget and always fight', as they did that historic day in 1981 when there were only 70 women fighting against 300 policemen wanting to know the whereabouts of their children, they return this Friday with that force that characterizes them to ask for memory, truth and justice.

In the afternoon, where every Thursday they make their rounds at the Plaza de Mayo, some few steps from the Presidential Palace, the mothers, with their inevitable white handkerchiefs, began to mobilize and, despite the heavy rains, they placed tent and they stayed there all night long.

On behalf of the Association, its president Hebe de Bonafini, recalled that date when they were going around the pyramid of the Plaza de Mayo for 24 hours. They were 70 kilometers, we got blisters on our feet, in the middle of the dictatorship (1976-1983), we were alone asking for our children.
