Dad allowed US entry to take daughter off life support
(CNN)The 13-year-old Honduran immigrant who tried to kill herself in New York while she was separated from her father will be laid to rest on Tuesday evening in Bayside, New York, her family said.
Heydi Gámez García, who was declared brain dead after attempting to hang herself, was taken off life support Thursday and died shortly thereafter, the family said.
Her father, Manuel Gámez, hadn't seen Heydi in four years, since he sent her away from their violent hometown in Honduras to the United States. Heydi was granted asylum in the US, as was the father's sister, Zoila, now 21.
But Gámez was repeatedly rebuffed by immigration authorities.
Heydi had been despondent about being separated from her father prior to her suicide attempt.

A heartbroken Honduran father shared photos of the moment he was finally reunited with his teenage daughter in the US after she hanged herself over his rejected asylum claims.
Heydi Gámez García, 13, fell into depression over President Donald Trumps anti-immigration drive which kept her separated from dad Manuel Gámez for four years.
He had lived in the States as an undocumented migrant until June 2014 when he was forced to fly home to El Progreso, Honduras, following his fathers murder.
When Manuels mother died from diabetes the following year he made the decision to send Heydi to live with relatives in Long Island, New York, after deeming his homeland too dangerous.
She was granted asylum in June 2016 and awarded permanent residency, but when Manuel twice attempted to cross the border to join her he was arrested and sent back home.

On July 3 after midnight, Heydi Gámez García was found hanging from her bedroom closet with a phone-charging cable tied around her neck by her aunt, Zoila Gámez, wanted to cheer her up with a snack and a refreshment.
She was declared brain dead a week later.
The young girl's father, Manuel Gámez, 34, received a special parole permit from U.S. immigration officials last week after he was arrested for illegally crossing the border in June.
The distraught parent arrived last Saturday at Newark International Airport to be with his daughter and said he spent his last days with her reading her the bible and singing her biblical hymns.
