Supreme Court overturns Decision to Transfer Lula to So Paulo Prison

Federal Justice decision was criticized even by PT foes
Aug.8.2019 1:49PM

ASÍLIA , CURITIBA and SÃO PAULO
Brazil's Supreme Court overturned on Wednesday (7), by ten votes to 1, a decision to transfer former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to a prison in Sao Paulo. The transfer authorization provoked a strong reaction in Congress, receiving criticism from both PT allies and opponents.

Lula has been in prison since April 7, 2018, in a special cell at the Federal Police headquarters in Curitiba. His transfer was requested by the superintendent of the agency, Luciano Flores because Lula's presence has affected the routine of the building.

Federal Judge Carolina Lebbos decided to authorize the removal of LULA to a prison unit in São Paulo, his state of origin.

Corregidor Judge Paulo Eduardo de Almeida Sorci, from the State Department of Criminal Execution of the Court of Justice of São Paulo, then ordered Lula to go to Tremembé Penitentiary 2, known as the "prison of the famous."

While he would have presumably had his own cell, Lula was to share the dining hall and courtyard with violent criminals.

You can imagine what could have happened to him, a 73 year-old man. Bolsonazi was clearly going for the jugular.

Thank you for sharing these reassuring - and important - news, Judi. Lula da Silva is the western hemisphere's most prominent political prisoner.

He would also be vulnerable eto any casual assassin they decided to plant in the general population, which would have been so easy for them, and they could also frame the assassin, and do him in, as well, to keep him from being a problem, too.

Now that it's so easy to see what Bolsonazi was planning, I can see Lula is going to need a lot of luck wherever he is until the fascists somehow are finally out of power again. I was still in shock that they were able to arrange to fool the people about Lula in order to throw him in prison, in the first place. People around the world know what kind of person Lula is, and he is well loved by multitudes of people.

Just like Trump, Bolsonaro has become obsessed with the fact the people loved his predecessor, and bears a personal grudge about it.

I really appreciate your illuminating just how intensely ominous Bolso's bright idea was. I didn't grasp the true difference at all. Oh, my god.

I did think it was cool that a judge could intervene in a deal which sounded wrong.

Hoping Bolsonaro somehow will start realizing if something happens to Lula things are going to get a lot more difficult in the future after the entire public has finally figured him out and is inflamed, enraged, and fit to be tied.
