In Chile, photojournalist Albertina Martínez Burgos was found stabbed and beaten to death Thursday at her home in the capital Santiago. The 38-year-old journalist was documenting repression against anti-government protesters at the time of her death, particularly violence against women. It’s reported that her recent photographs of the ongoing massive demonstrations against Chilean President Sebastián Piñera have also been stolen.

Murder hunt as journalist found beaten to death

A PHOTOJOURNALIST who was investigating police brutality against women has been savagely beaten to death.

Albertina Mariana Martinez Burgos, 38, was found lifeless in her ‘blood stained’ flat in Santiago, Chile.

Prosecutor Debora Quintana said: ‘We are clearly investigating this case as a homicide.’

Ms Martinez Burgos had been covering violence by the Carabineros (Chilean police) against female reporters during anti-government riots. In a Facebook post last week, she displayed photos of clashes between police and protesters.

Friends said her camera was missing when her body was found. Writing on social media, they said they wanted ‘justice for our friend’.

No arrests have been reported.
