RIO DE JANEIRO (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Nespresso, the maker of coffee brewing pods and machines, found child labor at three farms where it buys coffee in Guatemala, the company said on Thursday, also announcing it implemented a prevention plan to ward off potential further abuse.
The Nestle-owned coffee giant uncovered child labor at three of the 374 coffee farms where it buys coffee in Guatemalas central-southern Fraijanes region, it said in a statement.
The company was under scrutiny after Britains Channel 4 News last month reported finding children working on six farms where Nespresso allegedly sourced coffee.
Guatemala is the largest coffee producer in Central America, and the Fraijanes region is one of the countrys major producing regions.

George Clooney reacted swiftly to an investigative TV report revealing that Guatemalan farms linked to Nespresso coffee, which he advertises, were using child labor.
The Academy Award-winning actor said he was surprised and saddened by the report from British investigative news show Dispatches, according to Deadline and the The Daily Mail. The Dispatches report showed children working six days a week on remote plantations for less than $6 a day. Children were seen picking beans and moving heavy loads, while Nespresso has long claimed it only uses ethically sourced beans.
Clooney is known for his humanitarian work and is married to international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney. He earns close to $40 million a year as Nespressos brand ambassador, the Daily Mail reported.
Having grown up working on a tobacco farm from the time I was 12 Im uniquely aware of the complex issues regarding farming and child labor, Clooney said in a statement obtained by Deadline.
