Argentinas former president Mauricio Macri has been criticised by his coalition ally Elisa Carrió after his decision to be vaccinated against Covid-19 while in Miami last week.
Carrió, an influential leader in the opposition Juntos por el Cambio coalition, did not directly mention Macri by name in her remarks. But she did tell the La Nación newspaper in an interview that a leader of convictions and principles should not go and vaccinate in Miami.
Macri, who served as head of state from 2015 to 2019, revealed on May 9 that he had received a shot of the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine. The jab was given at a pharmacy in Miami during the former presidents visit to the United States for a conference earlier this month.
"While in the US I was able to verify that vaccines are applied anywhere, from beaches to shopping centres, and even in pharmacies. I myself have been able to apply Johnson's single-dose vaccine at a pharmacy," Macri wrote in a post that criticised President Alberto Fernández's governments handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
