Bolivia exceeds millennium clean water goals

LA PAZ, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Bolivia has realized nearly 100 percent clean-water coverage of its population, surpassing the 78.5 percent goal set by United Nations Millennium Development Goal, President Evo Morales said Tuesday.

In a national address at the Legislative Assembly, Morales affirmed that almost "100 percent of the population has clean water" although a few municipalities are still without clean water.

"This is a historic record," said Morales, calling the achievement a true "success" of his administration, which is already planning the third phase of the potable water program.

The program generated about 220,000 jobs between 2011 and 2012, he said, giving credit to "thousands of small companies that have been doing the building work."
