(160,524 posts)This will be a great experence for anyone who loves wonderful photography, the phenomenon of all these beautiful and, scientists are finally discovering, intelligence of the community of critters in nature, after all these very long years.
I have still to recover from learning about workers for United Fruit who started getting seriously ill from the pesticides, etc., and, when they were near the ends of their lives, unable to work, hanging out at their houses, vomiting a lot, the actual wild parrots in the trees around them started duplicating their vomiting sounds! Astounding! That would startle a sick person, but I can't help but think it also would force a guy to grin, wryly, from the very thought!
Have heard of the incredible variety of life forms in Colombia, and am going to enjoy the hey out of seeing these links.
Thank you, so much, old as dirt. 🐦🦜️🦚️
Already saw a tiny owl in the first 5 minutes! And a Cardinal. Never imagined cardinals lived in Colombia.

(1,972 posts)In Valle (short for the department Valle del Cauca, not to be confused with the department of Cauca just to the south), all you have to do is put out some fresh plantains or bananas (we grow some of both on our little finca, amoung other things) to attract them. It's fun to sit out on the back porch with a pile of math books and watch the birds come and go. And I can just lay down in the hammock and take a nap whenever I want, which becomes more important as one gets older.
We have a couple of parrots as well, who we've taught to say several things.
Cali (the capital of salsa) is in Valle, so if you get tired of birdwatching and want to go out and dance some salsa, it's right there.
