of the citizens who voted for the primary election. The reason is a supposed electoral fraud, like when Lista Tascon was issued (after the recall referendum, a Chavez Party member, deputy Tascon, obtained the same notebooks with the voters' id illegaly*. Millions of citizens were publicly exposed and thousands of public servants fired.).
Important to know:
1. the State institutions (CNE: electoral council) organized and supervised the election along with the opposition
2. it had been agreed before the primaries that the notebooks should be destructed this time within 48 hours (tonight)
3. in 2009, the Supreme Court reaffirmed the confidentiality of those notebooks
The opposition platform is declaring that the notebooks wont be given to the Supreme Court. They already started burning notebooks in some places.
We're all waiting for Chavez to speak.
*There are 2 versions on exactly how they obtained it, but both are completely illegal and highly reprehensible. You may start by reading this link before searching for more:

(6,837 posts)maybe an attempt to claim fraud and declare a lesser candidate the victor???

(62,269 posts)They would collect the names (3 million names) and use it to marginalize those Venezuelans. This is a playbook right out of crony Cuban politics. This would've been used as a voter suppression tactic.

(2,010 posts)These primaries defined the opposition candidates for town mayors and state governors as well.
One of the MUD precandidates in a small municipality denounced irregularities. Immediately the Supreme Court ordered for all the voting registers to be seized nationwide at the very last minute of the destruction process. More than getting names of opponents, the move aimed at throwing discredit on the primaries. They've been trying to do so since the beginning of the campaign. First they predicted the vote would never happen (the venanalysis article was posted here), then they said that the turnout would be less than a million, and now they want to induce doubt on the level of participation.

(6,837 posts)thanks for explaining that. Unfortunately, I am beginning to think that only one result will be accepted.

(62,269 posts)Yes PSUV will claim that they broke the law blah blah that it was all fraud blah blah, but MUD will merely point out that quite simply, the privacy of the voters is more important than the governments crony claims for transparency (they ran the primaries after all, I think only a very small percentage had non-CNE people running).
