Texas oil boom could be nearing slowdown, economist says
By Emily Pickrell, Houston Chronicle : February 1, 2014

While soaring production made 2013 a landmark year for Texas oil and gas, there are signs that a slowdown is approaching, the developer of the Texas Petro Index said.

Texas oil production grew more than 21 percent in 2013, as the state pumped out more than 857 million barrels, economist Karr Ingham said in presenting the latest Petro Index last week at the Houston Petroleum Club.

But the average rig count dropped slightly in 2013, the index showed, as did the number of drilling permits.

The index, which Ingham produces for the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, provides a periodic oil industry snapshot using a range of economic and production data.

but we have other sources of untapped energy. There is talk of placing wind farms around Austin. All the hot air coming from the capital is bound to make up for the oil and gas shortfall.
