But I don't pay attention to subscriptions. The icon stays yellow for months at a time.

The Stock Market Watch was in LBN for many years. It moved in the last couple years.

Set a bookmark to the Economy Group.
The daily Stock Market Watch thread is usually near the top and easy to find.

However, it was easier for non subscribers to find when it was in LBN, so I fully support such a move.

7. Back during the early hours of DU3 the posted SMW was locked as off-topic.

During the ensuing conflict and chaos it landed here in the EG. We took that as an indication the SMW has enemies. We have since tried a few times to repost it there and each time it was locked for various reasons. So, the EG has become a safe haven for it. I for one have no objections to SMW being in LBN.

12. The above is true and still to this day, the Stock Market Watch (SMW) still has its detractors

Being in a protected group, in my opinion, limits discussions. These discussions came to a head when 'Keynesian (regulated)' and 'Free Market (deregulated)' opinions where argued, thus some people thought it best to shut down SMW because a few felt some of the thoughts expressed did not fit Democratic Underground(s) purpose. That was a sad day for DU since I believe opinions backed by fact and logical deduction should be welcomed and discuss whether or not people agree. In today's complex world, there will always be more than one way to get the results needed to continue on.

In-spite of the above, SMW does continue to this day. It has changed (adapted) due to members coming, going and passing on. We need to thank all, past and present for passing all of the information they have contributed. The one thing we do know and agree on, is fact based information is important to a voting society.

Placing SMW back into LBN will bring change to the daily threads. It may bring more members of the DU community into the discussion. Thus, by the law of averages, more disagreements, which in itself can be good since the study of Economics is a soft science. That said, SMW will continue, how it will continue will depend on the contributions by DU members.

I remember back when they used to refer to us as "those fascists in SMW", because we didn't swallow a lot of propaganda, hook, line, and sinker.

We chose to discuss different ideas and facts.

I could never find it in LBN. And given the discursive nature of many of the SMW posts, LBN seems like an inappropriate venue..

who jealously guards that group from anything that doesn't meet the definition. And the analysis, historical posts, and camaraderie definitely would do that.
