Moving Truck Prices In LA And San Francisco Are Skyrocketing Due To Demand

A decent barometer Americans movement in real-time is to check on the cost of moving trucks in their area and, oh man, are people getting the heck out of cities in California.
To spot the trend, look for one-way travel from the largest west coast cities. Lets say youre fleeing Los Angeles for the sunny freeways of Houston, Texas, for instance. One of the fairly large U-Hauls could run you over $4,200:

The reverse journey, from Houston to Los Angeles is much cheaper. The largest truck on offer, a 26-foot giant, is $3,410 cheaper than the same truck in LA right now:
{snip}
Los Angeles isnt the only city seeing what could potentially be a mass exodus. Heres what a do-it-yourself move from San Francisco to Dallas will set you back:

Its not just U-Haul. Truck Rental companies across both LA and San Francisco are charging more. Like Budget Rental, which seems to spread the high cost across its various sizes of vehicles. Heres the same route, LA to Houston, on the same day:

There's a mass migration out of CA every few years due to storms, earthquakes, fires, or other disasters. Maybe they'll buy up some of the McMansions that have been cheaply furnished to rent out a few times a year., I'm sure the neighbors would appreciate it and the owners who bought them as bad investments in the early 00s will be glad to get out from under.
People who leave CA often don't stay more than a few years, they miss that climate.

Not sure changing from California to Houston sounds great.....too much humidity, flooding, hurricanes. Ill take my chances with wildfires and earthquakes. Upside of so-called mass exodus, freerer freeways.

the moving, not necessarily the surcharge
