24 February 2012

PITTSBURGH - A “Journey for Justice” to draw attention to the lockouts at Cooper Tire Co. in Findlay, Ohio, and American Crystal Sugar in the Red River Valley may turn into a partial celebration as the Steelworkers announced a tentative agreement with Cooper Tire.

Members of United Steelworkers Local 207L will discuss the proposal Saturday and vote Monday. If ratified, it would end the lockout of 1,051 workers that began Nov. 28.

“The union will not publicly discuss the details of the agreement until the members of Local 207L have had a chance to review it,” the Steelworkers said in a statement on their website.

Four members of Local 207L are traveling from Fargo, North Dakota, to Findlay with four members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco & Grain Millers union who have been locked out by American Crystal Sugar since Aug. 1. Their “Journey for Justice” is making stops in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.

Steelworkers from Findlay, Ohio, joined members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco & Grain Millers union at a rally Thursday outside the American Crystal Sugar facility in Chaska, Minnesota.
