China to Trump: Climate Change Is Not a Chinese Hoax

A Chinese foreign ministry official took President-elect Donald Trump to task Wednesday for his past claim that climate change was a Chinese hoax.

"If you look at the history of climate change negotiations, actually it was initiated by the IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] with the support of the Republicans during the Reagan and senior Bush administration during the late 1980s," said Liu Zhenmin, China's vice foreign minister, speaking with reporters in Morocco at the ongoing U.N. climate talks.

In November 2012, Trump tweeted: "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive."

The claim became an issue in the U.S. presidential election, when Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton brought it up in a debate.

Here comes another reality check for the Trumpkins. The Chinese have good reasons of their own to worry about low-lying coastal areas , the rivers that supply their drinking and irrigation water, and desertification. They have economic leverage they didn't have two and a half decades ago, and they aren't bound by Tea Party Climate Change Denying Bushwah.
