Support for Ameren, Westinghouse nuclear plans crosses party lines

In what looks to be a very polarizing election year, Missouri political leaders have found something on which they can mostly agree.

State and local officials are coalescing behind the quest of Ameren Missouri and Westinghouse Electric Company to access federal grant funds and licensing to build and operate modular nuclear reactors in mid-Missouri.

Dozens of lawmakers — Republicans and Democrats — joined Nixon and the energy executives on the front lawn to hear announcement.

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D., Sen. Roy Blunt, and U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R., also weighed in Thursday afternoon, each saying they strongly support the company’s application process and lauding the potential for job creation.
