(MOTO) News Flash: Crippled Fukushima Reactors Officially Closed

It’s official: Japan now has four fewer nuclear reactors than it did the day before.

That’s because on April 19, one year, one month and one week after Fukushima Daiichi units 1 through 4 lost power and either melted down or blew up, operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. formally announced it had taken them out of service forever, never to be restarted ever again.

Oh... so they aren't repairable after all?

The OP certainly comes from one if "apologist" is read "supporter".

Sometimes, DU is better than SNL.

It is not as if anyone ever thought these reactors would be operated again.

Thom Hartmann: http://www.democraticunderground.com/101722958

Rachel described the disaster gravely. 3 feet of cooling water where there should be 30 and dire stuff like that. She also mentioned the technology to deal with the worst case scenario HASN'T BEEN INVENTED YET! The tech rub is simply that there's so much radiation on the loose that it renders all electronics inoperative. robots dont run good without electricity.

it is worse than it appears.

worse for all of us.

getting worse quickly. even they won't be able to hide from reality for long.

and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. if you care about your longterm health you will avoid foods from japan, alaska, the western US, china, and most other places in the northern hemisphere. it takes more work but it is worth it. but it is only a passing concern i suppose. everywhere will be contaminated soon. they fucked around too long. and so did everyone else with the real power to do anything about it. that site makes it pretty clear what is happening. if you have time and are into horror stories just browse the headlines on there.you will get scared fast. californians are fucked. they basically truck zero food into the state. everyone else can try for awhile but everything has west coast produce in it. not a rant, just some information.

live while you still can. and pray for the children. we kind of deserve it for being complacent. they certainly do not.

this is very bad.

Edit to add: This is not a case of just taking them out of service, will have to do with less power. 4 is close to completely out of control. Turning it off does not stop the melt that has been increasingly exceeding cooling capabilities. What happens when they take them out of service? Does it allow for increased cooling capabilities or is it a sign of drastic measures having failed - time to make a run for it?

Sorry but things look grim over there and eventually possibly here.
