I think humanity is at a turning point.

I think it doesn't end well for some portion of us - either nature- or human-caused. Read the cover of the Washington Post this morning.

I just hope some pieces of nature remain.

The human species has worn out its welcome.

It's a joke and not a joke. But I still read it daily. I also used to tell him that we were going to exit this planet just in time, but the way everything is accelerating, we're gonna see some shit.

I think we're past the turning point, but even if we are at it, I see no global political will to do anything other than pursue the almighty dollar. The ultra-wealthy will set up enclaves in Antarctica & the extreme northern regions. There was an article this past week about people living in affected areas who were thinking of moving to the Pacific northwest to escape the worst of climate change. Oops.

There's a really depressing TV show about what would happen if humans were suddenly gone, what would happen to all the crap left behind, like nuke power plants. It was hard to watch, we've been such terrible stewards, treating our planet like a garbage dump.

On that happy note, have a great Sunday! It's gonna get a little hot here today, 90°, but that's not too bad. We're one of the few houses in the area without AC.

... almost. I hate pay walls. I think it goes against what the News is supposed to be (available). I don't want to have to pay for the news.

I live in the hills above Napa, been evacuated twice since 2017. The entire area is holding its breath until Rainy Season. My Water District just told us to not water our yards. When I see my yard die, I die inside. I'll never get back my maple that died last year when we were evacuated (and all our water systems were turned off). The fire did not get to my community (about 200 houses up in the hills), and we are grateful. We clear our properties of brush, we cut and clear any limbs on trees that are below 7 feet.

I'd like to read that article, but again, I just hate pay walls.

My library system provides the New York Times for free (as well as Consumer Reports, which I love).

Check it out - maybe yours does, too!

I live in the inland Pac NW - east flank of the Washington Cascades. Our home bordering national forest burned down in 1994!, in one of the first of the new "megafires." We were on level 3 evac status in 2018, but firefighters had time to station here and helped save it, thank their ever-loving hearts! PAY THOSE FOLKS WHAT THEY ARE WORTH!

We limb and trim (just did more the other day, with a wildfire 30 miles away and unpredictable...as they all are). Lots of fires just north of me right now - lovely part of the state up in flames. What about all the wildlife????!!! Makes me want to ... well, I won't say.

We are lucky have irrigation, that lasts less and less time into the hot season, but still watering now.

Hang in there - and check out your library for a free NY Times subscription and let me know what you find!
