Flare-Offs From Massive Oil Fracking Facility Can Be Seen From Outerspace
When you see one of those commercials claiming that oil companies want to produce "clean" natural gas. Think of this.
30% of the natural gas that is being produced in this country is being burned away in North Dakota because oil companies profit more from doing that and because government regulations thus far are nonexistent.
The 15,000 square mile Bakken shale field that produces oil and natural gas by fracking produces so much light that it can be seem from outerspace (see the circled region). More than 100 million cubic feet of natural gas is flared away each day. It doesn't cost substantially more to recapture the natural gas. However, it does effect the bottom line so the companies aren't doing it and the EPA isn't holding them accountable.
The world bank estimate that the North Dakato facility which is only 1/10 the size it will be when it's finished is already producing global warming pollution that is equivalent to 2.5 million cars.
