when I moved here - it was very forested - everyone had large trees in their yards - I have one that is over 500 years old. But in 30 years of watching neighbors come and go, the one thing that is common is that move in cut down trees, and then move on. See,they don't like the mess trees leave on the ground (branches and leaves). many of my neighbors have cut down trees on the edge om my property, that i considered my trees. I have to warn each one of them I will sue them if they cut any more down and I plant seedlings on the edge, but it will take a few centuries to get as old. WHat the hell is wrong with people? why don't they just live in a city if they don't want trees? Of course one reason is because it messes up their green lawns (yes, I have weeds in my lawn, bnoi grass if perfect. i pull them out a few days a year by hand, hatesses poisons) . my brother has moved a few times and the first thing he does is cut down the trees and then complain about his electric bill - idjit, he will never learn about deciduous!!

Sorry, have to rant, 3 years ago, someone bought a house from my neighbors that lived in theirs for 50 years and the first thing they did is cut down 300 and 400 year old oaks and then put in a huge patio and fake fountain in their back yard and infringe on my property line. I told them one step on my property and I call the police when I found they hired someone to cut down my 500 year old oak ad "a favor" to me.
I no longer have a completely shaded house because of the neighbors tree trimming, before I did not need an air conditioner because I was always in the shade and it was cool.

end of rant.

There should be tree protection ordnances. That is why I like to live either in an older part of town in city or in the sticks where the the front yards range from trees and grass to flower gardens. I love trees and natural landscaping, but I hate lawns.

but it is only 100 dollars and plant another tree. I have a tree that is 100 years old and hollow, I planted another tree next to it 20 years ago so i could eventually cut the older one down, now the town is telling me i can't cut the rotten tree down. I can pay the fine, but I have to find another spot to plant a new tree since planting so many years ago because of concern for the health of the older tree does not count.

I also consulted with a landscaper to plant new bushes after I had taken down some destructive fir trees, his proposan was a scorched earth and replant everything. i told him to get out, I like my 50 year old azaleas and 70 year old rhododendrons. I feed them, I trim them so they stay healthy. Why would I want new tiny plants? But that seems to be what people do with their houses. I am particularly pissed with the neighbors that destroyed a heritage rose garden for their brick patio and then put crap shrubs around it. The roses smelled so beautiful. I used to help the previous neighbor to maintain them, he taught me a lot, but was 90 when they had to sell and move to the new destroy neighbors. .
