Climate slowdown means extreme rates of warming 'not as likely'

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-22567023

Scientists say the recent downturn in the rate of global warming will lead to lower temperature rises in the short-term.

Since 1998, there has been an unexplained "standstill" in the heating of the Earth's atmosphere.

Writing in Nature Geoscience, the researchers say this will reduce predicted warming in the coming decades.

But long-term, the expected temperature rises will not alter significantly.

...which can provide a slight cooling, perhaps?

had been "found" in ocean warming. This article will be manna for the denial crowd. They thrive on doubt.

None of the deniers will bother reading to the "we're still screwed in the end anyway" part and just shout about the "we're not warming" bit...

Bloody brilliant

...but not right away....right?

I thought that global temperatures always fluctuated, they were never just going to continue to go up in a straight line...

It sounds, to my ears at least, that this is just more re-arranging the deckchairs, because in the end, we're still going to hit the proverbial iceberg....

Surface warming will be slower than predicted, but overall warming is actually accelerating.
