(27,275 posts)when i was battling breast cancer reiki and acupuncture were as beneficial to me, if not more so than the dangerous drugs prescribed by my doctor. my naturopath told me to have my vitamin D levels tested, not my oncologist, or my surgeon, or my primary care physician, or any so-called medical professional. as it turns out, my levels were extremely low, and i now take a supplement. the only relief i've ever had from a chronic shoulder problem are my visits to the chiropractor.
i have a friend who has heart damage from chemo, and another who has permanent numbness in her feet from chemo. they both "did whatever the doctor told them" and didn't even try anything else. if it won't hurt you, why NOT try something different, weird, unusual, or (gasp) unscientific? reiki is nothing more than deep relaxation...what's the problem with that? when my sister was dying from cancer, i hired a reiki master to treat her, of course this person could not cure her, and neither could science, but it turned out to be the best thing i could do for her because she enjoyed it and it gave her some peace. if i had known how beneficial it would be for her, i would have done that every day after her doctors gave up on her (after misdiagnosing her and botching her one chance for a clinical trial).
then again, i live in the bay area of California...the headquarters of woo woo

(38,309 posts)I took that photo myself. I found out what it was about too.
Sorry, I'm so far anti-woo I think most anti-woo is woo too.
It's what's NOT on that table that you've got to worry about...
The currently debated woo in E/E is that radioactive toxins are somehow more remarkable than non-radioactive toxins. But in the larger scheme of things dead is dead, extinct is extinct, no matter how you got there.
The biggest problem with people is that there are too many of us for earth's environment to easily support
Sex is fun so birth control is a very good idea. Every kid needs to know that before they are fertile. Like at six years old or younger, if only to protect themselves, emotionally and physically. My mom and dad did good with that sort of education, and my wife and I did good too with our own kids. Our kids graduated to adulthood unscathed and unscythed.
That's the biggest reality our species has to face. Numbers.
If we don't reduce our numbers then nature will, and her methods are not nice. It's been that way since the beginning of life on earth. Humans are nothing special.

(38,309 posts)They escaped to the U.S.A. when things got too hot for them in mid-nineteenth century Europe and Great Britain.
People do what people do. If anyone wants to call me something I'm probably Pacifist-Quaker-Buddhist-Catholic.
One of my grandpas was an Army Air Force officer in WWII supervising crazy scientists and other technical people, some of them captured Nazis. Nobody ever shot at him, he never had to shoot back.
My other grandpa was a pacifist who chose to work in the shipyards building Liberty and Victory ships because he told the draft board it was against his religion to kill people and he'd rather go to prison then kill people.
My crazy grandma built ships too, she was a welder, but she had a second job as a party girl dancing with sailors and making them happy. She wasn't a hooker, but some of her friends were. My mom's "daycare providers" were hookers. Nice women, all of them. My mom enjoyed a very protected childhood, much better than some U.S.A. "normal" kids got, even if she sometimes stumbled upon one of her "aunties" fucking a sailor.
