Pakistan Government Releases Close-Up Photos Of Island That Emerged After Huge Earthquake{large}

http://www.businessinsider.com/photo-of-new-island-in-gwadar-pakistan-2013-9

Tuesday, following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake, there were reports that a small island had emerged off the coast of Gwadar, Pakistan.

Despite initial skepticism from some quarters, the evidence seems to suggest it's real.

The Gwadar local government office released this close-up image of the island today:

***my understanding is that this is a bulge caused by a deep ocean methane release cause by the earthquake.

It doesn't look like shallow sea floor and that much of a deep floor upthrust would very likely have produced a tsunami.

This wasn't a tectonic movement (hence no tsunami) but a sediment movement
where the upper layers of mud were lifted by the sudden release of previously
frozen methane clathrates (by the heat of the event) that effectively boiled
and transported the overlying mud into what has been called a "mud volcano".

(That will produce a spike on any local atmospheric methane monitors!)
