For a month or two after that it was still pretty freaky, since here in eastern Japan we would be getting several big aftershocks a day, some of them strong enough to knock the books out of my bookshelf.

Very approachable/understandable. Of all the maps I've seen, this one makes the most sense.
(Sort of like the modified mercalli intensity scale is more sensical to a human, than the richter scale, which doesn't speak to the quake's effects)
