GOP holds ‘factual’ climate hearing and decides half of scientists are global warming deniers

Republicans in the House of Representatives on Wednesday held a so-called “factual” hearing about climate change and used the testimony of skeptical witnesses to conclude that about half of scientists suspected global warming was a hoax.

At a Subcommittee on Environment hearing titled “A Factual Look at the Relationship Between Climate and Weather,” Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) asked University of Alabama in Huntsville Professor John Christy — a well-known global warming skeptic — if it was really true that “97 percent of climate scientist think that climate change is real.”

“No, not at all,” Christie replied. “The American Meteorological Society, by the way, did do a survey of its professional members and found only 52 percent said that climate change of the past 50 years was due mostly to human kind. So, 52 percent amount is quite small, I think, in terms of confidence.”

A survey published earlier this year the journal Environmental Research Letters looked and the work of 29,000 climate scientists published in nearly 12,000 academic papers and found that 97.1% agreed that human activity was causing climate change.

5. Republicans can never give up their fight against environmentalists now

For the worst deniers it would be admitting they were wrong all along, taking credit for slowing down change by fighting for years what never should have been questioned. We could have started adapting 4 or 5 decades ago when the scientists started telling the very same thing they're saying now. Maybe we didn't know as much then but we could have tried, right? We could have invested in trying. Instead we pumped out all the dinosaur bones we could find. And now it's the only way we know to work, so we have to start fracking, blowing off mountaintops, deep water drilling, making lovely tar sands.

I know why voting D instead of R doesn't make that much difference in our sold-out/bought-out world but at least I can cast one vote against these people.
What a way to go down in history.. almost your whole group working against reality, for decades.

(edit - God's on their side though, Heaven is somewhere else, Earth is just a rock. Also it's the End Times, so nothing we do to the rest of the lifeforms matters.)
