The Price of the (Exceedingly Corrupt) Olympics

The upcoming Sochi Olympics, dogged by rumors of mismanagement and reportedly the most expensive Games in history, will cost at least $51 billion - more than the previous 21 Winter Olympics combined, and over 400% higher than originally planned. Russian opposition leader and anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny has launched a dramatic interactive website, in Russian and English, that might explain why: He outs cases of brazen corruption, like 10 buildlings that cost double what they should have, a 31-mile railway project that cost $8.7 billion, or enough to have been paved entirely with beluga caviar, and the rewarding to two Putin childhood buddies of 21 contracts worth $7.4 billion, or more than the total cost of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Putin says it's all good. Let the games begin.

How appropriate.
A suggestion: Keep The Gold offshore.
The UN appropriates two uninhabited islands, one cold and another warm, and dedicates them for the Olympics.
They are administered and staffed by Goodwill, International.
All the infrastructure is built as permanent installations.
Financing by selling media rights.
National teams are still recognized (for ratings purposes) but anyone can compete in a UN uniform if they choose.
