YOKOHAMA, Japan Climate change is already having sweeping effects on every continent and throughout the worlds oceans, scientists reported on Monday, and they warned that the problem was likely to grow substantially worse unless greenhouse emissions are brought under control.
The report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a United Nations group that periodically summarizes climate science, concluded that ice caps are melting, sea ice in the Arctic is collapsing, water supplies are coming under stress, heat waves and heavy rains are intensifying, coral reefs are dying, and fish and many other creatures are migrating toward the poles or in some cases going extinct.
The oceans are rising at a pace that threatens coastal communities and are becoming more acidic as they absorb some of the carbon dioxide given off by cars and power plants, which is killing some creatures or stunting their growth, the report found.
Organic matter frozen in Arctic soils since before civilization began is now melting, allowing it to decay into greenhouse gases that will cause further warming, the scientists said. And the worst is yet to come, the scientists said in the second of three reports that are expected to carry considerable weight next year as nations try to agree on a new global climate treaty.

(8,020 posts)..going back and forth with a hammerhead on a newspaper LTTE board about warming/change.
I did all the 97% stuff, and a list of national and international science panels who support warming/change. I included the American Medical Association. I covered the carbon corporations and their propaganda effort. I pointed out that thousands of scientists, in many associations aren't conspiring to hoodwink us.
I did the whole thing... trust me.
His final post... I shit you not...
"No conspiracy, just human nature. These scientists of yours are far from being independent, as you naively believe. Most of them are funded in large measure by public dollars. There is much economic incentive for them to continue studying manmade global climate change. The bigger the perceived disaster, the more public money will continue to flow. And flow and flow and flow. There (sic) cash cow would disappear if the public wasn't frightened for the future.
Now, I have changed sides and joined your ranks. Please send money for my study, quickly. I am truly independent and currently receive no money from any public source."
There is no fucking hope!
