Heartland Institute documents leaked

I think this was in GD, where it sank like a brick. Since there's a little more coverage, I thought I'd try a re-float here.

From The Register:

Gifted amateurs and interested activists the world over are poring over documents published on the Desmog blog and elsewhere, which appear to detail the US think-tank the Heartland Institute’s budget and anti-climate-change strategy.
...

The leaked document also, apparently, reveal Heartland Institute funding to “key individuals” for countering the “alarmist AGW message”, identifying Craig Isdo (the Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide and Global Change), the University of Virginia’s Fred Singer, and Australian Robert Carter as receiving Heartland funding.

Climate skeptic blogger Anthony Watts, it appears, received $US90,000 to relaunch his Website.

and Skeptical Science:

An anonymous donor calling him (or her)self "Heartland Insider" has released the Heartland Institute's budget, fundraising plan, its Climate Strategy for 2012 and sundry other documents (all attached) that prove all of the worst allegations that have been levelled against the organization.

It is clear from the documents that Heartland advocates against responsible climate mitigation and then uses that advocacy to raise money from oil companies and "other corporations whose interests are threatened by climate policies." Heartland particularly celebrates the funding that it receives from the fossil fuel fortune being the Charles G. Koch Foundation.

"Heartland Institute's secret plans for a K-12 climate-denier curriculum.

Internal documents acquired by ThinkProgress Green reveal that the Heartland Institute, a right-wing think tank funded by the Koch brothers, Microsoft, and other top corporations, is planning to develop a “global warming curriculum” for elementary schoolchildren that presents climate science as “a major scientific controversy.” This effort, at a cost of $100,000 a year, will be developed by Dr. David E. Wojick, a coal-industry consultant."

and we'll be returning to myths for our knowledge base. How much of this is embraced by privatizing education, I wonder?

The Global Warming Curriculum for K-12 Schools is mentioned in three of the eight documents. In two:

http://www.desmogblog.com/sites/beta.desmogblog.com/files/(1-15-2012)%202012%20Heartland%20Budget%20(2).pdf

It does not discuss "dissuading teachers from teaching science"

The third document:

Page 1

Is claimed by Heartland to be "a total fake"

http://heartland.org/press-releases/2012/02/15/heartland-institute-responds-stolen-and-fake-documents

One document, titled “Confidential Memo: 2012 Heartland Climate Strategy,” is a total fake apparently intended to defame and discredit The Heartland Institute. It was not written by anyone associated with The Heartland Institute. It does not express Heartland’s goals, plans, or tactics. It contains several obvious and gross misstatements of fact.

This is, after all, the Heartland Institute. You don't get much more rightwing than that.

skeptical science called it "denial gate".

I'm guessing that the media will essentially ignore it.

Human civilization is knowlingly destroying itself. For ExxonMobil, the end of the world can't stop the gravy train. In 30 years Earth will be completely uninhabitable thanks to these morons. Unfortunately, the rich can't cheat death... yet.
