UK Energy Minister Can't Name A Single Village Where Residents Favor Fracking

The energy minister failed to name a single village in Britain that would welcome fracking as a leading scientist warned 1,000 successful wells a year would be needed to meet the daily demand for gas.

Matthew Hancock, the new energy minister, said that exploring for shale gas had to be carried out in a “sensitive way” to reassure concerned communities while companies work out how much gas will be accessible.

Speaking on the BBC’s Today programme Mr Hancock that it was “not quite right” that there is widespread disagreement over the fracking process. Although there were was “local opposition”, Mr Hancock said, there was broad support for the need for better energy security.

He told Today: “We’ve got to get that balance right between being sensitive on the one hand and making sure we do explore for what could be a very positive impact on the nation.”
